Appointments

All surgeries are by appointment.  Appointments can be made via the telephone between 08:00 and 18:30 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 08:00 and 19:30 Tuesday.

We have eight GPs at Stockwood Medical Centre and the Practice has approximately 10800 patients.

As you can imagine with such large numbers there is always a degree of pressure on our appointment system. However, we do provide an efficient service and endeavour to make the appointment system as convenient as possible for our patients.

Sometimes it can be difficult to get an appointment with a specific GP exactly when you need it, so we have set up the following systems to try to make it as easy as possible for you to get the best appointment arranged for you.

Advance Bookings

You are able to book in advance to see a specific GP. This is useful if you are dealing with an ongoing problem and where continuity of GP care is equally important. Advanced bookings will be made up to several weeks ahead.  We can take bookings up to two weeks in advance for both the doctors and the treatment room nurses.

Regular Bookings

You can phone and ask to see the next available GP at any time. This is ideal for non-emergency new issues where continuity is not so important, but where you want to see or speak to a GP quickly.

Telephone Advice/Consultations

If you feel that a telephone call with your GP or treatment room nurse will be more appropriate than a regular appointment, you can phone reception and request a doctor or nurse call-back. The receptionist will take details of your enquiry and a telephone appointment will be arranged on the phone number you have specified.

Emergency Appointments

If it is essential that you are seen by a doctor that day and we have no regular appointments, we can see you at short notice in an emergency slot. If this is the case please tell Reception. You will either be given an emergency appointment or the doctor may call you to discuss your medical problem further, in order to decide on the best course of action.  You can also book appointments with our Nurse Practitioners if your problem is not on-going but is urgent.

Cancellations

If you are unable to attend your appointment PLEASE RING US TO CANCEL or use the CANCEL feature in the text reminder you will receive.

In the last year 1654 appointments were needlessly wasted by people not cancelling unwanted appointments. Even if you cancel with a short notice there is a good chance that the appointment can be reused for someone else.  You can also cancel from the appointment reminder text message you are sent.

Online Appointments

Online bookings are available for routine appointments with all our GP's.  These are for routine appointments only where your issue is not an emergency.  To book appointments online you will need to be registered with either the NHS App or EMIS Patient Access online and you can do this by asking our Reception team for a registration form or clicking on the link above.
